If your wedding ceremony is planned for a Magnetic Island location under the jurisdiction of the Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), previously the EPA, then you will NOT have to pay a fee.

  • NO fee is required for National Parks or State Parks
  • Most wedding ceremonies in National or State Parks do NOT require a permit.
Contact the Local Department of Environmental Resource Management office at 07 47785378 or email; jo.petersen@derm.qld.gov.au for more information.

All you have to do is to advise them of the date & time & they will advise you of
the terms & conditions for having your ceremony in National or State Parks.

Whatever your chosen Magnetic Island Ceremony location perhaps you should first speak with your chosen celebrant or an experienced professional island based celebrant to find out which authority has jurisdiction.

Lee we hope this answers your query.

  1. I booked our October Magnetic Island wedding with a (wedding coordinator service). We wanted to have our ceremony on a beach. When we were given the quote I was shocked to find that the Townsville City Council Permit Fees for different locations varied by as much as $200.

I contacted the Council & was advised that the fee was only $71.25 no matter what location in the council area on Maggie. I was also quoted a ridiculous fee for Florence Bay, a National Park. What are the fees for National Parks & do I need a permit?
